Joomla has become one of the most popular CMS because of the features it offers. Joomla helps in developing any kind of website. You may create simple as well as complex websites through Joomla. It provides better platform to create corporate applications and web portals. Joomla provides a complete Web Development support. It also offers a number of great features which can be explored below:
- Joomla CMS can be used with a great ease by any user with a little knowledge. New pages can be easily added and modified using the CMS system it provides. One can easily add content, images and can perform text formatting using the editor support in this.
- Joomla provides support for many languages. So, if you want to create a website for non English users, you can easily create it with Joomla. From an English website your visitors can easily switch to any other language they are comfortable with. This feature will give user friendliness to your website because visitors can easily view the content in a language of their choice.
- If you have a group of people working on the same site, then Joomla is a solution for you. Different authors of the site can easily upload their content instead of waiting for programmers or Designers. Uniform website template used in Joomla provide a consistent look to the whole site.
- It is easy to give multiple user authentications in a Joomla website. Number of people can log on to the site simultaneously with their individual permissions. Similar feature in a traditional website will require a lots of development work by the developer, which can be easily done in a Joomla site.
- Joomla offers a good template support. You may choose any of the templates available based on the theme of your site. This template can also be changed in future whenever you want a makeover of your site. Uniform template support will give the same look to all the web pages and all the new pages created in site will automatically adopt the existing template design.
- Another good feature by Joomla is the use of extensions. These extensions provide additional functionality to a site. Joomla provides different extensions which can be easily installed within a Joomla site.

Yes, Joomla is more customizable than other CMSes. That’s why most of the developers prefer joomla.
Thanks

Good notes on Joomla. I find that Joomla is not as bulletproof as Wordpress, but it’s much more suitable for larger sites, community sites, etc. Wordpress’s design is smoother and more graceful, but Joomla is ultimately more powerful and better-designed for multifaceted sites. Both are very good engines, and being they’re both free, they’re both worthy of consideration.
I do note, however, that this blog entry was written in Wordpress…

Good points there.
But why would someone’d choose Joomla instead of WordPress, Drupal, Expression Engine or other known CMS plataforms?
Cheers!

@Eduardo … well first of all people would choose joomla because it is one of the best opensource cms. It is more stable than wordpress, easier to theme than drupal and as powerful, cheaper than expression engine and has an active community base. Concerning other cmses, joomla would still be a better option when compared to most of them, including commercial ones

Joomla’s pretty impressive these days, much better than it used to be a few years ago when I found it a pain to work with and bloated, since they rewrote it from the ground up. But I must say- these aren’t really advantages over other CMS’s- the other main players (WP, Drupal etc.) have this functionality as well. Joomla’s advantage comes down to covering the bases of Designers, the developers as well as the end users, as well as having the community backing it, but not excelling in one of them.
WP’s always been designer friendly while retaining a pretty good developer relationship, Drupal’s developer friendly but theming it is harder (imo), but while Joomla has a pretty good user system, it lacksa bit with the other two requirements of a CMS. It’s come a long way in a short time, it’ll be good to see what it comes up with.
